Shadowing calls without drowning in jargon
By Priya Shah
Before you join a client call as a shadow, draw three columns: Decisions, Open questions, Phrases to steal. Ignore perfect transcription; capture exact wording only when it signals tone or legal care.
When speakers code-switch, jot the language flip and the function behind it—was it rapport, clarification, or escalation? After the call, spend five minutes rewriting your notes into a neutral recap you could send if asked.
Bring one clip (with permission) to your mentor session. We slow audio to mark fillers you can trim and connectors that sound natural to native stakeholders. This pairs directly with Client Call Confidence for Engineers.
